Ceramic, Spanish Red Iron Oxide, Black Iron Oxide, Underglaze washes, Charcoal
19.5 in x 15 in x 10 in
I had the idea for this sculpture after a very long day, knowing that the next day would be just as busy. I wanted to capture an expression of hopeless exhaustion that stems from being overworked. In today’s fast paced society, humans tend to be valued only for what they produce. But over-production often comes at great expense to the body and mind. By juxtaposing industrial elements with expressions of hopelessness and exhaustion in a damaged body, I ask the viewer to reflect on their humanity, and pursue balance within themselves.
